What is GOTS Certified?

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It is recognized as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. The certification ensures that textiles meet stringent criteria throughout the entire supply chain, including cultivation, harvesting of raw materials, environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing, and labeling.

Here are some key aspects of GOTS certification:

  1. Organic Fiber Content: GOTS requires that a textile product contains a minimum of 70% organic fibers. These fibers are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

  2. Environmental Criteria: GOTS prohibits the use of toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and other harmful substances in the manufacturing process. It also sets strict standards for wastewater treatment and energy usage.

  3. Social Criteria: GOTS ensures that workers involved in the production process are treated fairly and provided with safe working conditions. It prohibits child labor and discrimination and upholds internationally recognized labor rights.

  4. Traceability and Labeling: GOTS-certified products must be traceable from the raw material stage to the finished product. They also require accurate labeling to provide consumers with transparency about the organic content and certification of the product.

Overall, GOTS certification provides assurance to consumers that the textiles they purchase have been produced in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner, promoting sustainability throughout the textile industry.
